As a kettle this one is ok. It's not so pretty with a big and bulky plastic basis but it does the job it's asked for. Heating is fast enough and it's nice to see it through the glass. The handle is far enough from the glass that you won't feel the heat so another good point there. The kettle works fine and turn off by itself when the water is boiling.

I used to possess a Tefal 1.7L vitesse kettle and was quite happy with it despite the power button that had a tendency to turn off by itself. I was going to buy a new one when I read a commentary about the possible danger of heating water in plastic. Since it made sense to me I've been looking for a kettle that would prevent plastic contact with water and as many of you know it's a lot harder that it should be.
This kettle is supposed to be the answer to that, I think it's not perfect.
To answer a question in another review, the kettle is made in china and I could not find any information regarding the plastic used in it.
Despite more than 10 uses, the water still possess a bad smell when I eat it but I have not find exactly where it was coming from. It might the kettle, it might be the water itself. The water taste fine I think despite the odor.
So although the kettle is made of glass, the glass is maintained on the basis by a plastic joint which seems to come in contact with boiling water in the inside.Also, the boiling water and vapor can come in come in contact with the plastic top that is definitely emitting a strong odor of heat plastic. It's possible to boil the water with the top open, which is not really safe by the way, it seems the auto turn off mechanism will not turn off in this condition so be careful if you try it.

So overall it's smelling a lot more than my previous tefal kettle. I like to see the water boiling and I think as a kettle this one is ok but it's not really the graal of plastic contact free kettle.
