One day in a second-hand store I saw a handsome stainless steel teakettle for $3, which I bought because I liked the lines. (It wasn't an Alessi; lt was less angular and more traditionally spherical. I later discovered that it was a Lagostina, and cost about $200 new.) I never used it until one day the electricity went out--the best reason not have an electric stove--and I was reduced to boiling water on my trusty gas stove.

Being absentminded, of course I wandered out of the kitchen lost in a good book and let the kettle boil dry, because it didn't have a whistle to alert me it was boiling. So I went on the internet in search of one--they are hard to find.Eventually I located the stylish Alessi Bird whistle (Availible in the original red; but also in yellow/orange, and white), and it actually fit and looked splendid on the Lagostina kettle. Even if it hadn't, I liked it and would have shaved it down to fit.The bird whistle is whimsically elegant, and effective in reminding me to take the boiling kettle off the flame.I recommend this whistle IF it fits your narrow-spout kettle.
