I buy hardly any kind of product these days without consulting Amazon reviews first. This latest experience is a reminder of why.If I had read these reviews first, I would have been forewarned.

Quite simply, the kettle does not whistle. The box says, "Strong, loud whistle" but the kettle itself remains silent. The cap over the spout has a hole in it, with nothing across it or over it that might induce a whistle.Perhaps it is a mute whistle, for use at tea parties in Carthusian monasteries.

I have a half-century of experience with tea kettles and have known them lose their whistle, have a poor whistle or even too loud a whistle, but this is the first I have seen that was born utterly whistleless.

I'll now look for another kettle and yes, I will read the reviews first.
